We are the poetry and music rhyme group this year. Our teacher is Yasemin Gadelhak. We are Shanna Carr, Trask Hicks, Mychal Lawerence, Will Misho, Tarah Olson, and Traci Smith. I am the student assistant Natalie Guzman. We have been going to location to write poetry inspired by the view. We then took our poetry and put it into iambic pentameter and matched it to various rythms, beats and music. This will hopefully lead to freestyling. We've listened to members' favorite songs and wrote down the key elements of inspiration and thought of the song. The final result this week has been our own full on original rap music.

This week we are making childrens book to read to kids on the 1st of July at the Astoria Public Library. It will be from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Everyone is invited to come. At the Library we will also be singing nursery rhymes with the kids, and rumor has it Shanna will be doing the Hokey Pokey. Traci is going to do "Boom Boom Ain't It Great To Be CRAZY" (or "TRACI!"), Tarah will teach "Do your Ears Hang Low", Trask will coach us through "Camp Grenada", and Will and Mychal will be trying to teach tongue twisters that will leave your mouths twisted and tired (try to say that 5 times in a row as fast as you can).

To help us develop good strong reading voices, one by one we stood on the rooftop of the Hotel Elliot and practiced reading our books down to the rest of the class standing below on the sidewalk.  See pictures below!!! More are coming soon.....

This week we went to the cove in seaside to write about the year 2023. We wrote about how the world was going to be like. First we listened to Busta Ryhmes this artist that wrote a song about the year 2000. We heard it and started getting some ideas about the whole thing. Then we read them to each other and then we put them with beats that Yasemin had at her house. So we had a great time and we had a short week so we didn't get to as much as we wanted to.

This week we went to the Falls in Youngs Bay and Shiely Park to write more about the year 2023. We wrote songs that are going to be in the album. In Shiely Park we wrote about what we wanted but we had to put it with the poem that we started writing about in Seaside. At the Falls, we wrote a little bit  more about what we wanted and we rehearsed the song with the beats that fit the most with our poems.
